One thing you quickly notice about LA is that everyone seems to have a dog. With our daughter living there, we figured we should join the club. So, off we went to find our perfect dog. We were leaning towards a wiener dog, and wondered if we could get a pink one. You can!

Amid the endless sprawl of Los Angeles, Pink’s Hot Dogs stands out as a timeless pink beacon of mouthwatering indulgence and excess. Established in 1939, Pink’s has become synonymous with LA street food culture, drawing both locals and tourists with its legendary hot dogs and a vibrantly pink atmosphere.

Stepping up to Pink’s on La Brea Avenue is like stepping into a slice of Hollywood history. The iconic pink and white stand, adorned with neon signs and movie memorabilia, exudes retro charm. The line of eager patrons down the block created a sense of anticipation to Pink’s and also gives you the much needed time to decide which dog to get. Despite the wait, the lively chatter and palpable anticipation create a sense of communal experience.

Pink’s menu is a journey through eight decades of Hollywood history and decadence! With an array of options ranging from classic chili dogs to celebrity-inspired creations, and and every choice promises a gluttonous adventure and self-assured heart-burn.

Should I order the “Martha Stewart Dog,” a decadent combination of relish, onions, bacon, chopped tomatoes, sauerkraut, and sour cream. Or should I get the “Ozzy Spicy Dog”, featuring nacho cheese, American cheese, grilled onions, guacamole, and chopped tomatoes. Maybe I should have the “Lord of the Rings Dog,” topped with barbecue sauce and crispy onion rings, adding a delightful crunch and smoky sweetness to the experience. One onion ring to rule them all!

Having been to Rekjavík and had the Icelandic hot dog (known locally as “pylsur,”), a mix of lamb, beef, and pork, topped with crispy onions, raw onions, ketchup, sweet mustard, and a remoulade sauce, we were ready to try just about anything. Here’s what we decided on:

The experience at Pink’s is more than just about the food; it’s about the atmosphere and the history. The staff, friendly and efficient, added to the vibe, making us feel at home. The outdoor seating area, with its picnic tables, and umbrellas, provided a perfect setting to enjoy our meal amidst the vibrant sun of LA.

Pink’s Hot Dogs is not just a place to eat; it’s an LA institution that offers a deliciously decadent journey through time and taste. And cleaning up after Pink’s is much easier than cleaning up after a dog.
