We absolutely love Laurel Tavern, a gastropub on Ventura just off Laurel Canyon Boulevard in the heart of Studio City. Laurel Tavern perfectly captures the quintessential LA “being seen while trying not to be seen” scene where minor celebs, influencers, industry insiders, locals, and wannabes (like us) effortlessly hobnob in commingled coexistence over a shared love of great food and drinks. Laurel Tavern is our happy place—surprisingly relaxed and chill, with a standoffish and yet welcoming vibe. The bartenders and staff, who look like they just stepped off a Hollywood casting call (and they probably did), add to the charm with their “I think I got the part” energy. And the food? Absolutely indulgent! Pair any dish with their featured cocktail, and you’re set for an unforgettable afternoon or evening, especially if you hit their happy hour.

Located across from Radford Studio Center (CBS Studios), it is frequented by many writers, directors, and actors. We’ve often seen “industry” types bringing their work on a laptop to finish the day with a happy-hour pint and menu while working through the details of a script or refine their latest pitch. The ambiance vibrates with creativity. And the open layout and communal tables under (and amongst) the stars Edison-bulbs create an egalitarian “you’re here so you must be one of us” vibe, making it an ideal spot to pretend you are.
Laurel Tavern has a mouthwatering array of elevated pub grub, craft beers and artisan cocktails. For cocktails we love their Crimson Fizz (vodka, cucumber, mint, lavender syrup, elderflower tonic, soda water, lemon juice, lemonade) and their very solid Old Fashioned. Our go-to food items from their menu are:

I’ve blogged about a few transcendent burgers, such as the Hot Granny Bison Burger (bacon, cream cheese, chopped fresh jalapeños, and sweet/spicy jalapeño sauce) at Black Hills Burger & Pizza in Custer, South Dakota. Or the Mark Bittman endorsed “best sandwich I ever had” flauta d’ibéric d.o. jabugo sandwich in Barcelona. And I’ll say that the Bacon Blue Cheese Burger (with blue cheese, bacon red onion jam and arugula) is a close contender!
Laurel Tavern is our must-visit spot every time we’re in LA. For anyone looking for a top-tier gastropub combined with a vibrant “see-and-be-seen” atmosphere, it has rightfully earned our respect as both a local favorite and a standout Los Angeles dining destination.
